Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Workshop
Creating Caring Cultures in Construction

Construction has a higher number of deaths by suicide than any other industry.  Firms have programs in place to prevent injury and death in less risky safety areas, yet many employers do not have programs in place to address mental illness and suicide prevention.

Effective safety cultures are “caring cultures.” This two-hour interactive program will help companies elevate their efforts towards safety AND mental health programs.  While most safety initiatives focus on getting our employees home safely, we must also ensure that our workers return safely and healthy the next day.

Participation in this program will help you understand that mental illness is a physical illness that creates production, safety and performance problems.  We can’t ignore the capital and human cost it has on our businesses.  Leave this session prepared to create awareness in your organization and implement lifesaving mental health support programs by:

  • Identifying risk factors for suicide in the construction industry
  • Understanding the Up-, Mid-, and Down-Stream approach to protective systems
  • Recognizing performance and social warning signs
  • Using the Suicide Prevention Needs Analysis & Integration Checklist (hands-on in session) to conduct a needs analysis of your organization’s current business practices and policies
  • Developing a plan based on the Suicide Prevention Needs Analysis & Integration Checklist, identifying the challenges of implementation and discussing ways to overcome obstacles
  • Obtaining Suicide Prevention resources available to use, share, and take back to work immediately

This workshop is provided FREE of charge thanks to the generous sponsorship of BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois.

We strongly encourage CEO, CFO, HR/Training and Safety personnel to participate in this valuable session addressing an important topic impacting construction. To ensure access to all members please limit registrations to four representatives from any CFMA/CAGC member firm.
